Carmen was born on 21 Dee 1924 in Knox, Clarion Co., PA to Earl Emelious and Viola Belle (nee McGinnis) Rossman.

 She met the love of her life, Harry Kelly Brown, Jr., when she was only 14 years of age and he was 17. They were married 5 Feb 1946 in Aberdeen, Maryland.

 Carmen was very dedicated to the Dadeville Presbyterian Church serving as an Elder, Deacon, Treasurer and Presbyterian Women Enabler. She led a very active life with camping, canoeing, hiking and mountain climbing with her husband and family. Her working career included secretarial work and sales. She was Tallapoosa County's first female firefighter and a first responder.  She continued as a board member until her death.  

Carmen attended college in her 70's at Auburn University. She had a strong love of music and took piano lessons in her 60's and 70's.

She loved to travel and her last trip was in August 2010 when she drove to New Jersey to visit with 3 of her children and to Wisconsin with her daughter to visit her granddaughters and great-grandchildren. A previous trip took her to Alaska. She has lived in many states and in Tripoli, Libya in North Africa as a benefit of her husband's U. S. Navy service.  

Carmen was preceded in death by her husband on 14 Aug 1990, her brother, Kenneth, and her sister, Jeanne Menke.

 She is survived by her 4 children: Harry Kelly Brown, III, Tens; Carol-Jeanne Turk, New Jersey; James Brown, New Jersey; and Kenneth Brown, New Jersey. She also leaves 2 sisters; Nellie Roberta Howson, Massachusetts, and Carol Diane Griffin, Maryland: 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and 14 nieces and nephews.

Alabama Funeral Home, Dadeville, AL and Dadeville Presbyterian Church are handling the arrangements. The Pace's Point Fire Department will be honoring her in a memorial service in the near future. Church services will be held on 16 October 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Dadeville Presbyterian Church, 171 Okefuske Street, Dadeville, AL. After a successful battle with breast cancer, Carmen desired donations in her name to The American Cancer Society in lieu of flowers.
